  1. Moderate Sedation policy

We have anesthesia do sedated MRI's. They usually intubate and put them on a propofol drip, so they don't have to stay in the room. Then we recover the pt.
  2. New Stents

Is she smoking? Doesn't sound like classic restenosis (neointimal hyperplasia) would happen that fast. "She thrombosed them" sounds more like clot--d/t smoking? Was she on Plavix, ASA?
  3. biphasic defibrillators

We only use lower energy for cardioversions with the biphasic. For defibrillation, we still use 200, 300, 360.
  4. Withholding metformin pre-contrast

Same as you. We have both regular and non-ionic contrast, but use non-ionic 98% of the time. There is one doc who will argue 'til he's blue in the face that contrast choice makes no difference in contrast induced nephropathy. We're supposed to use...
  5. Swan-Ganz Catheter Monitoring

Hopefully it's smaller than the probe for a TEE?
  6. Get your hand out of my pocket!

I know this is a stupid question but did you sign a contract when you accepted the job? I would be very hesitant to give the money back. Hopefully, you didn't sign a contract, just accept the position. If you did, hopefully it is non binding, and ...

  8. "Shift goes to the lowest bidder..."

Poor comparison. FLIGHT ATTENDANTS and pilots bid for their trips--but they're always with the same company and on the same equipment ("class of passenger"). The same flight attendant is always based out of the same base (DCA, for example), and alw...
  9. Renal dose Dopamine question.

    Anyone using fenoldopam?
  10. acute MI--Question about thrombolytics

I am in the Cath lab and we do PCI. Reopro/Integrilin/Aggrastat are not thrombolytics; they make the platelets "slippery", like CCURN said. We routinely give heparin boluses during the procedure, hang Reopro or Integrilin, and if need be, do give i...
  11. CCU Sluice Room

    What is a sluice room?
  12. How would you have handled it?

We have to ask our non-english speaking patients if they consent to have the family member act as translator. Of course we don't know what the translator is saying to them in their native tongue or what they answer. Kind of a catch 22. Especially ...
  13. Why is HIPPA a big deal all of a sudden?

Because the deadline for compliance is 4/14!!!
  14. Any Suggestions?!?

What kind of cuffs are they?? The sterile gowns we use are that paper-y kind with the cotton-like knit cuffs; I wouldn't think those would cause a problem (they're just like cuffs on regular clothes). They must be different from the ones that we us...
  15. Hand lotion

NO NO NO, you don't understand the infection control issue!! You are not supposed to kiss your patients!! The lip gloss promotes bacterial overgrowth and then you kiss your patient and therefore contaminate them. Ok, I don't get it. No lip gloss? ...
