  1. Colorado Critical Care Search

Hi. I know it has been a while since you posted this, but I thought I would share my insight. Boulder Community is a small hospital and it's ICU is soon to be in jeopardy as a new facility in Lafayette is opening in December. The new facility, Exempl...
  2. What Do You Want To Hear When Receiving Report?

I like to know what occured on the shift I am taking over for, abnormal labs or vitals, PRN's given, etc. I also like to know when the pt first came in, (ie: this pt was admitted 12/22 s/p crani) and what the plan is for the pt (ie: once stabilized ...
  3. We can sign up early or get called in for an extra shiftf. Anyway, we get 1 1/2 times plus $12.50/hr extra for a bonus shift, and if you are a day shift worker who picks up a night shift you get the $5 differential on top of it.

  5. Phlebitis and a stupid idea

You have to have an order for a foot IV at our facility, which I think is a smart idea. Not only is the phlebitis rate higher, but people with poor circulation (diabetes, PVD, etc) can have even worse consequences.

I work in Denver, Colorado. I started out at $20/hr. I work days, but the night differential if I were interested is $5/hr more.

  8. What keeps you at your job???

I am where I am now for my year of experience before I go to the ICU. I am also there because I like hospital nursing and I love the patients I take care of. :-)
  9. License required???

I went to school in Kansas for my LPN and my RN and I took my boards in Colorado. I had a classmate who went to school with me and took her boards for Texas and now works there. Just check with the Texas state board of Nursing for any requirements ...
  10. Do you wear gloves

I ALWAYS wear gloves... Sometimes I have a difficult time starting IV's with gloves on, but then I will just put on the smallest size so I can feel the vein better, because I don't want to take any chances.
  11. Pain Control...

I am writing a research paper on pain control for a class for my BSN and I would love any input, advice or stories from anyone out there. I think that pain control is a HUGE issue right now. My question is this, how many of you assess your patients...
  12. how long till you're good?

Great thread! I am a new grad, I've been working Neuro/Trauma for 5 months now and looking back I have to say that I have learned A LOT. I went through a program like yours where you are an LPN and then an RN, and I have to say that it was very ben...

  14. Experienced Nurse vs. Graduate Nurse

:chuckle This is so true! I am a new nurse and I see many of the new grad traits in myself.
  15. Stethoscopes

I had the Littmann Select II during school, and now I use the Cardiology III, love them both, great acoustics. :-)
