   Had an issue with a pt last night..heart rate in the 20s...yes, 20s...roused easily, sats 96 on room air, bp 130/60..all his baseline norms but for his hr. Called MD at 3am, explained the situation, and doc said, and I quote "Oh its ok, he's fine." ...

   Our infection control specialist told us that if we're having this issue, generally we're putting liquid soap on our hands before wetting them first....and that soap is pretty tough...says if you wet them first that won't happen:) Just a suggestion

   Whenever one of my pts thanks me for the care I have given, I always tell them it was my pleasure. I try to make each of my pts feel as though he/she is my only one;)

    Also,another trick..if your pump tells you thatyou have air in your line, take a flush, squirt 1/2 into the trash and screw the syringe onto the 2ndary thingy on the iv cartridge. Back prime right into the syringe:) You'll see the plunger rise.

    We were told by our hospital's legal dept that although it's up to you whether to carry extra ins or not..that in their experience the nurses that carry their own (and it will be found out during the discovery process..) are never dismissed from laws...
