  2. Manager vs Leader

You have great insight into what needs to be done to make a good team. Anyone in a supervisor role should have both managerial and leadership skills. I believe the leadership is more important, esp. in a Magnet envirenment. Having the frontline ca...
  3. What does the assistant manager do on your telemetry unit?

  5. Type Of Pts Accepted on Telemetry??

Isn't that the worst. No dignity in dying with that situation. I hate to have a DNR dying patient on the monitor! That's almost as bad as a CCU patient with a monitor at bedside and the family focus is on the monitor. YUK
  6. POST-CABG bleeding?

I was just reading about HIT (Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenea). It can occur with patients anticoagulated with heparin during surgery or a procedure. The article also stated it can be caused by as little as a heparin flush.

  8. Are nurses high payed techs?

Being a nurse is not just about the tasks but more importantly about critical thinking. It is my responsibility to know what is going on with my patients no matter who is doing the tasks.
  9. need info?!!

Banner T-Bird is using nurse patient ratio of 4:1 on Tele. That is day and night shifts. There have been occasions where you will have five but not the majority of time. We are in the process of establishing assignments according to patient acuity...
  10. Nurses caps!

Wow, I haven't worn my cap in years! I wore it, along with a classmate the first shift after receiving our licence. After that we would wear them every year for Nurses Day. They are difficult to work in, just not used to something high on top of ...
  11. 2 Nurses needed???

I ran a poll on this subject a few months back and 65% of the responding nurses do double checks on insulin. Our hospital policy states double check orders and dosing when drawing up any type of insulin when dose is 20 units or greater. This is evi...
  12. RN "refresher classes"

Welcome to Phoenix. Some of the colleges offer refresher courses. Consider contacting the State Board of Nursing for a listing. Some hospitals require such a course when you've been away from hospital nursing for a certain period of time. As for ...
  13. EDH patients' generally stay in the ED usually with a qualified nurse (dependent on level of care needed) from our hospital's resource team. Once the order is written for admission, the patient becomes an inpatient no matter where they are located a...
  14. "The View" insults nursing

I stopped watching The View long ago because of unflattering comments made about another group of people. Specifically, Christians, and not in a joking manner. I feel they tend to generalize instead of dealing with individuals. I only wish I cou...
  15. Evidence-Based Practice

The company I work for is very big on evidence-based practice. They have a research dept that encourages and assists with each aspect of a project, including the stats. Our policy council makes recommendations only after reviewing research and wha...
