  1. Overnight Care for children?

Thank you for the feedback! I would not be doing this in my home. I would establish an actual facility. I would like to take as many children as I am able to start off with given the number of staff I would have at that time. Hours would most like...
  2. Overnight Care for children?

So I have come up with an idea of possibly opening up a "night" care for the sole purpose of mother's and father's who work the third shift. There are so many people who are struggling with day care/school hour issues b/c of the 7p-7a shift at wo...
  3. NO LUNCH??? NO BREAKS??? Is that common in nursing?????

I work the night shift and we don't usually take a full hour break. We come and go as we please as we work. If we take a full hour and don't get all our work done in time we get in trouble for staying after to catch up. You're damned if you do and...
  4. how much do starting RNs earn a year?

I started out as a new grad $32.50 working the night shift. At the end of that year I did well with surpassing 60k when it came to tax time. Hope that helps!
  5. Safe Patient to Nurse Ratio Article

I think I may be making a move to CA soon! My nurse patient ratio right now is 1:10 with only 1 aide for the entire floor!
  6. Serious Nursing Assistant Question

I know many hospitals hire nursing assistants without any experience at all! They have training sessions within the hospital and you start immediately. Save money and time, but might have a little more experience to catch up on- good luck!
  7. I work in a hell hole!!!

Thank you everyone so much for all of your input! I knew I wasn't just new and dumb! I knew deep down that everytime I went in just didn't feel right, and the patients were suffering because our hospital wants to "work with the least amount of nurses...
  8. I work in a hell hole!!!

We're working on getting a union into this hospital-hopefully soon! We do have a grid but by NO means do they follow it. Beginning of shift they look it over. If we only need one more patient to keep a nurse they still will send a nurse home..yet ...
  9. I work in a hell hole!!!

ALSO, I did a search on this website on patient ratios and was shocked to see that no one else had as many patients as we do! We are always understaffed..always down 1 nurse and 1 aide..and when asked about it we get the "well according to the grid ...
  10. I work in a hell hole!!!

The thing is these new grads are all just coming off their orientation, thus all the float nurses who were precepting (who are well-seasoned) are heading out, leaving us cut and dry. (Not their fault) Also, even though these new grads are coming on, ...
  11. I work in a hell hole!!!

Okay, let me start off by saying that I'm a new grad and started working on a Med-Surg floor in Feb of this year. I work the 7p-7a shift and we never have less than an 8 patient assignment! It's always 8-11..this includes post-ops, isolations, telem...
  12. Nurse:Patient Ratios on Surgical wards

I work at a Community hospital. I am a night RN 7p-7a..we have anywhere between 8-11 patients on our surgical unit!!! It's crazy, unfair, understaffed, and unsafe!
  13. That would be night shift.
  14. I am all too familiar with the short staff/patient ratios! I just got in under the belt before this whole economy situation...was working at the hospital before I graduated and basically was just promoted to RN. I love when I go in to find out just o...
  15. NCLEX-RN: 265 questions and PASSED!

I've come to the realization that it doesn't matter how many questions you answer..you can pass/fail at 75 and 265 and everything in between! Just have to wait it out, suffer the 48 hours your results need to get posted, and hope for the best!
