  1. What do patients say that irks you?

Whew, I just read through about 2 years worth of this thread! What a bored 36 weeks preggo nurse I am. Anyway, these are hilarious and I hope that I don't add to the ammo when I go in to deliver!
  2. Floor nursing while pregnant

Thanks for all the advice! My OB did write a letter switching me to 8-hr shifts because of the swelling, which my manager accomodated right away. At this point, I'm scheduled for 2 more weeks and then on leave unless I request otherwise, this gives a...
  3. Floor nursing while pregnant

I was just wondering, how long did some of the other staff nurses work into their pregnancies? I am 8 months pregnant and really starting to dread every shift just because of general aches, swelling and stress. I work on an extremely busy med-surg/te...
  4. Portland hospital reviews

I've worked for the Portland VA Medical Center for 1 year and really like the patient population, coworkers, management, etc.
  5. HELP! Need Information!

I have former classmates who completed the Salem Hospital L & D new grad program and love working there. I'd go to their website or call them to check on the application deadline though, as I remember, they only accept new grad applications at ce...
  6. out of state new grad license

I would call the Oregon BON on this one, I've heard it's best to take the NCLEX in the new state if you are moving right away, but unsure on the specifics.
  7. so our 1st year is almost up: what are your plans

My first year is up at the beginning of June. I love what I do, adore most of my patients, but would love to advance. I want to slowly start taking core classes for a CNS grad program after my baby is born and life settles down, but I want to stay in...
  8. Need advice about school issues..

I had to send a similar letter to nursing school and to my first workplace for a heart condition. Everyone was fine with it as long as I am being regularly followed up.
  9. US citizen giving birth in Canada

Wow . . . , I wish I could comment on this thread without attacking anyone, but as a fellow preggo nurse, I think my hormones would get me into a lot of trouble on this one. Just . . . wow. . .
  10. Are any new grads going to med-surg

I went into Med-Surg as a new grad in June, had nothing to do with grades or ability I think, more about going where I was needed and could find a well-rounded experience
  11. carpuject injectors

I still prefer to transfer to a syringe too. I feel that I have more control over the rate of administration when not using the carpuject. We give a lot of pain meds, but I really don't feel that I'm slowed down.
  12. What did u buy your first year of nursing?

I bought a new-to-me turbo volvo(only slightly used as a rental car) the day I got my NCLEX results. I had buyer's remorse and hardly bought anything until 6 months later. My husband and I just upgraded to a slightly larger house with more yard. I am...

  14. Why are Newbies Such Whiners?

I used to think I had been very lucky to escape the so-called "toxic" work atmosphere outlined in these threads. My preceptors were brilliant nurses, I like my manager, I like our ratios, the schedule seems fair and so on. I'd worked at this hospital...
  15. Difficult decision?

I had a tough time deciding what I wanted to do- I knew I wanted to be in healthcare in some way. Do you have any time to volunteer in a clinic or hospital so that you can become more familiar with the role of a nurse? I am not fond of being on the r...
