This RN went to law school, practiced law for 5 years and returned to healthcare, preferring to work with medical professionals rather than legal ones. Lessons I've learned along the way include: 1) be aware of the motivations of your peers and managers that may affect you, 2) work for larger employers if you can (they have better benefits), 3) work for non-profit healthcare providers as the for-profits ones put their shareholders ahead of patients and employees, 4) work in states that have strong nursing unions, and 5) gain as much knowledge as you can about how electronic medical records work--it will open up a whole new world of employment opportunities for you.
