  1. Would you still take the CCRN exam...?

I'd have to agree with the majority and say don't take it if you have already been accepted. I've had the certification several years and am up for renewel this year......and am not planning on renewing it. For one, it wouldn't do me any good to re...
  2. pda software

I agree that the program is great and very comprehensive. I had a discount code as well, but it didn't apply to that program. Many of the discount codes only apply to certain software. It's still worth the $50 if you are unable to use the code!
  3. Debt Load after CRNA School

My total debt will be around $55,000. As stated in other replies, it is an investment.....a great one at that!
  4. I would think that it could potentially help if you meet all the minimum requirements.........and some of the "right" people can give you a reference. If there are some MDAs or CRNAs who know you and your work, they could give you a positive referen...
  5. Are CRNA programs with simulation labs better?

Riverking: A simulator lab can prove to be valuable, but you must also look at how much time is spent in there. It may not prove as valuable if students rarely use the simulator. You should also look at the curriculum each program has to offer. Cl...
  6. VCU interview

The interview should be fairly laid back. They typically don't ask clinical questions as stated by mbrian, but there's always a possibility of sneaking a few in. I heard they may incorporate a few while touring the sim center, but it's not definate...
  7. Planning Now for CRNA Later

Some schools will accept you with a bachelors in another field besides nursing. You still need the ICU experience, good grades, etc.. but not necessarily the BSN.
  8. Which ICU?

Many schools like you to have at least one year of adult ICU experience.
  9. malestudent, Just put your mind to learning as much as you can. Take any classes that you can wherever you obtain a job. If you decide to stay in your area I'd suggest taking a job at MetroHealth, University Hosp. or CCF. You have several great ch...
  10. ECMO

We have had a few ECMO survivors in the unit I used to work in. Of course more died than survived, but nonetheless there were some survivors who made it out of the hospital. My current hospital doesn't do adult ECMO. We currently have a gentleman...
  11. How much do you make?

RN 6 years Cardiac Surgery ICU $25/hr with full benefits not including $5-7/hr shift diff
  12. Blood Transfusions

Our facility requires 2 RNs to check the blood in the patient's room. Anyone can pick it up at the blood bank. Vitals are checked prior to administration, 15 minutes after the start of transfusion, 1 hour after start, then on completion. The only i...
  13. Reply to Barton

Recently the hospital I work in has recently experienced record census for many days - weeks - months. Of course staffing has not been the best due to this high volume. An incident happened that I think woke up administrators and supposedly now we h...
  14. Management wake up!!!

Joellen, Truthfully, I would think that the cardiothoracic surgeons would be smart enough to realize that their patients may suffer post op and not recover as quickly with understaffing. But then again, every day they are in the hospital is more $ i...
  15. Hospitals in Trouble

As stated previously by bluesboyj, it comes down to the hospital (and administrator) making more money. Unfortunately, when you are understaffed, errors can and will be made. Hopefully they won't be lifethreatening and career ending for any nurses,...
