  1. health worries....

Jess, if it's significant to bother you, perhaps you ought to see your doc about it... (I'm adding this particular smiley just to see....:roll )
  2. Nurse Impersonators

I couldn't agree more that nurses need to identifiable! This issue exists in home care, too, where the HHA's are called "nurses" by their patients and the families. I can't tell you how many times I called some one and said, "This is the nurse, Ful...
  3. Binge Drinking

I may be off my rocker, but it seems to me that we as human beings and, presumably, adults, can do pretty much what we want as long as it doesnt' endanger others... I have a real issue with drinking and driving (note: I have a problem with them TOG...
  4. I was fired today

Tanta mierda! (So much shyt!).... Linda, I got your email this AM just before flying out the door to work. I"m sorry it ended up this way, esp. when you had such hopes! Alcohol and endorphins, with a hot bubble bath and mani-pedicure chaser will...
  5. Whats your philosophy?

I also subscribe to the wholistic philosophy of nursing (love the new spelling!). I'm not as up on theorists as I used to be, but had the pleasure of meeting Jean Watson in '95! I was attending a conference in the UK (one of the highlights of my li...
  6. suturing

I have no comment on suturing, but wanted to compliment you, ShellybellyRN, on your great choice of avatar! In a world of Elmo, I still adore Grover!
  7. Do you have any suggestion?

Good for you for being brave enough to post in English! When I was learning Spanish, there were people who were too shy to speak or write. That's the only way you learn a language. If you have any questions about English, please feel free to post ...
  8. So, what's on your feet?

Another vote for clogs! I do home care, so pound pavement literally, and have plantar fascitis. I used to come home in tears until I discovered the miracle of clogs! I wear them year 'round (except in wet weather in which case I switch to boots mo...
  9. I carry liability ins. not so much because I don't have faith in my agency, but because I do volunteer work with my church. In a case like that, my agency won't cover me because I wasn't on company time. This protects me 24/7!
  10. Women or girls ?

I'm origionally from Delaware and tend towards y'all, too. When I was in school, one of the guys (see!), would call us gals. Any one else would have gotten clocked by most of us, but he was a great guy! I think it mostly depends on who's saying it...
  11. Maryanne is doing well......

Such a sweet little one!!! I'm adding all of you in my list of prayers. I'm on retreat at the end of Jan and will offer my weekend for Maryanne and for you. One of my favorite aunts is also Maryanne!
  12. What Freaks You Out?

The dressing change that was worst for me was the guy with neck CA and pseusomonas and a trach. He did his own trach care but couldn't do the dsg change. Between the green runny stuff (how clinical of me!) and the stench, I nearly lost it. Fortuna...
  13. you might be a nurse

How about you might be a HH nurse if your bag for work and your bag for personal stuff (pocketbooks are just too dang small!) are similarly stocked. I've been fussed at for palpating my boyfriends' veins (they are beautiful and I've told him so!) in ...
  14. What Freaks You Out?

I'm glad I ate lunch BEFORE stumbling on this thread!!! I also have a pretty good stomach, but some of the stuff posted (intestinal worms.... eeewwww!) just gave me the heebies! I also so HH and detest roaches. The worst for me was the woman who was...
  15. Overcoming fears

Hoolihan, you slay me!!! I remember when I was in nursing school, a group of us went to the food court in the mall between classes. We ended up discussing clinicals and comparing, graphically, the decubs we'd seen during the week. There was a grou...
