Pinned, capped and a lamp for LPN school, just a pin for RN graduation. I kinda felt the others in my class got cheated.

  4. How about your favorite Old Wives Tales related to health?

Thank you for the great link! Interesting about the newborn hair and heartburn. My old Slovak Grandma in law was worried when I went to the zoo while pregnant, took my DH aside and told him to keep me away from the monkey cages or the baby would look ...
  5. A Different Approach to the ADN vs. BSN Debate

I just think that as nurses we have better things to do than backbite. I have worked with LPN's that are better nurses than I'll ever be, and 1 year BSN's with a first BS degree in fine arts, (concentration in sculpture!) who became the go-to guy f...
  6. How many times did you take the NCLEX before you passed?

Once for the LPN test, and once for the RN, both minimum # of questions, but I know excellent nurses who have had to take it 3 times before passing, due to test anxiety. Just practice on a test cd or take a test prep course, you will do fine.
  7. Flu shot or not?

I have had the flu twice and don't ever care to repeat the experience, so I get the flu shot every year, except the year there wasn't enough to go around. I do work with some nurses who refuse to get the shot, sayng they get low grade respiratory in...
  8. Funniest real orders you have seen in a chart?

  9. NCLEX Number of Questions and Clarification

Hi joa. Yes, 2 people in my class found out over a weekend, but some did not find out until Wednesday. Keep calm, the odds are in your favor.
  10. Let's introduce ourselves...

Hi everyone, I just love this site. I've learned so much already, and people are so supportive and helpful. I was an LPN for 8 years and just passed my RN boards last month, and it's a lot more complicated than I thought it would be. I wish you all t...
  11. Do you mix your insulins?

per our pharmacist, we don't mix 70/30 ,50/50 or 80/20 insulins with R when it is ordered for extra sliding scale coverage, because the pre-mixed insulins may have a stabilizer that may cause a change in the peak times of the R. Although I've always ...
  12. NCLEX Number of Questions and Clarification

Tess, I just took mine friday the 7th, it shut off at 75 w/o math and I was scared stiff. I PASSED!!!!! if the questions were hard that's a good sign that you are at a high difficulty level. I know you won't believe it till you see it ( I didn't) but...

Thanks, elizabells. I'll sleep better tonight. PS I have a grandson in NICU right now and I can't tell you how much I appreciate your specialty. NICU nurses are awesome!
  14. NCLEX Number of Questions and Clarification

Hi everyone. I took my boards this AM and I was sure I failed because the machine shut off at 75 and I hadn't had a single math calculation question. I thought you had to have at least 5% to 11% math questions to pass. Can anyone clarify that? thank...
  15. Nurses are not "allowed"

Throwing a phone at a nurse or anyone would be considered assault and battery in a court of law. At my hospital, because of abusive doctors, a code "control alert" was instituted where staff were to come to the nurses station and stand silently arou...
