  1. How do You deal with Man-Hating Female Nurses?

Currently I'm the only Man-Nurse where I work. Fortunately I haven't run into the problems you are having. I do wish for another guy to get hired. Sometimes the estrogen gets a bit thick. -Russell
  2. kissing a pt/ resident

I have no problem with giving your residents a peck on the cheek. It will make their day. Some never get hugs and kisses if it weren't for the staff who in some cases are the only family they have. -R
  3. Why "male nurses" instead of "men in nursing"?

I think things are changing. It used to tick me off when my mother in law would always introduce me and say "He is a male nurse". She always said it in a durrogitory (sp) tone. Now I hardly ever hear the term. Are times changing? Now when I tell...
  4. Two newbie questions

We didn't have to get naked in the classroom, we did it cause we wanted to. *kidding* You won't have anyproblems with your female pts. I've heard frequently that some prefer men. If you handle yourself in a professional manner you will be fine. -R...
  5. Roll Call

I think it's a great thing to have a man forum here. Here's a recent guy picture. -Russell
  6. An Ethical Dilemma

Not that I want to form a base for your thoughts but If I were the NP I'd send Mom out of the room for a bit to create a chance to talk to this pt. If you bring up to Mom that daughter might be Pg then you have blown trust with your pt. This gives y...
  7. Marijuana for everyone!

So, are you guys saying that pot is STILL illegal? What a shame. After all these years, a progressive country like the good ole USA can't see the light. Legalize it, put a sin tax on it and put those farmers in Iowa back to work! -Russell
  8. We have a "bug" in the system and are working to get it fixed. In the meantime, use the "quick reply" box. Should be no problem. This is not contagious to anyones computer and is limited to the enhanced reply box. Sorry for the problems. Hope to ha...
  9. drawing blood

I know how to draw blood but it's a rarity that I do it. We have the phlebs who come and do that. It's not that often that we start IV's even. IV team and all that. But if you do have to draw, After the first couple of times it's a breeze. -R
  10. Comment that really ticks me off.........

You may have just asked him what he did for a living and then asked him where he was "trained". Might just have done the trick. There are not too many docs in this area who act so superior to nurses. I like it when they ask "what do you think?". A...
  11. Asn/bsn?

(sigh) There are many, many threads here that address this very issue. You might want to search some of these old threads for insight into this. -Russell
  12. Baby born w/o a face..WOW!!

I didn't mean to pull the plug on this thread. Just voicing my thoughts. I know a bit about birth defects. After 20 years my heart is still broken. -Russell
  13. Baby born w/o a face..WOW!!

I don't really know if an amnio could pick up this syndrome or not. Is this not a neuro tube defect? I'm not suggesting anything but if these defects are know early enough in the pregnancy then the parents can make a decision. I know not everyone ...
