Sorry, just missing too many too fast. Very hard.
  2. The Real Brian Short - Words from a Friend

I am a Vietnam Vet and a recent ('01, 14 years ago) grad. Pretty familiar with suicide. It's almost never rational. Recently (I guess almost 3 years ago now), a good friend in the end stages of esophageal CA took his life. Maybe I can see that. But i...
  3. Thank you, Joy Behar!

Way wrong at way too many levels- have to let it go.
  4. Life, Death, and Other Matters of Consequence: Part I

    Very cool!!!
  5. Burn out in the ER

I work on a laid back (relatively) tele unit. It's about all I can handle at the moment. If I am forced (you heard right) to float to ER, I just do what I can do and get help for the rest.
  6. I enjoy OB very much. Not only for helping new life into the world and the basic nursing aspect of helping patients, but because so much of what we do in OB could be done differently with much better outcomes. But for me, the door is closed and I jus...
  7. Error and Attitude

The quality of nursing care is directly related to job satisfaction, which, in large part, is dependent on relationships with coworkers. If administration really cared about the quality of nursing care they provide, they would have several avenues f...
  8. Clinic patients picket hospital

As is the case most of the time, the bottom line is money. Obviously, the NP care is far better from the perspective of the patients; I haven't ever seen any positive picketing for any MD (some negative, though).
  9. Becoming a Nurse the Hard Way

    Cool. I can identify!!!!
  10. Average number of patients for RNs in Montana?

I have taken care of 12 in a med surg unit on the night shift. Interesting and the shift goes by fast. I'm in CA now on a DOU floor with 1:4 day and night. Pretty cool.
  11. Thank you; you are incredible.
  12. New Zealand!!Great place to work or not?

My understanding is the salary is far lower in NZ than in Australia; many NZ nurses work over there. If you have no specific draw to NZ, you would be better off working in Australia.
  13. Night shift woes

MamaT, Just looking at the calendar-- I'll be 56 in a couple of weeks. Also went back to nights a couple of months ago. It's really in how you take care of yourself physically. Although I know you were mainly venting, it is very important to take ...
  14. In Bed with Dying Patient

It's good that so many are "thinking outside the box." Although I was not the patient's nurse and was functioning as the chaplain, I was in a situation in which the daughter of a patient who had just died was totally overcome with grief (partly due t...
  15. Hi! As I have said, if you don't enjoy doing what you are doing, find a nursing slot that you enjoy. And as has already been said, this place is dangerous-- get out.
