  1. doctor disregarding triage decisions

I work in a city ER, there is no privacy for those being triaged or registered. A glass window was put up to protect confidentiallity, please, those ignorant people will stand in the doorway waiting for me to acknowledge them, even though I am curre...
  2. Uniform stained/Any solutions??

I don't know about y'all but we still have to wear whites. Whites and the ER do not go together at all! Oxyclean is great for everything, I throw it in with all my white laundry, still afraid to try it on colors, but since it worked on your cranber...
  3. Exorcism in the ER......NOT

This one takes the cake, write it up for ER, make yourself some money. Guarentee they'll eat that crap up. In my ER, I'm sure they would have talked someone into a LP, that would have woken it right up! Eldernurse, love the story, and agree with yo...
  4. Violence in your ER - what do you do???

Metal detectors? We the heck do you guys live? I understand in Texas, because you are allowed to carry a concealed gun. Those at greatest risk in my ED would be registration and the triage nurse. Our security is right there. As the triage nurse, ...
  5. Med/Surg to ER

Listen here kid, the best thing Nike ever introduced was the slogan "Just Do It"! I think it's great you have some M/S experience, they always make the best nurses. They have better assessment skills. I've worked just about everywhere, except L&...
  6. Refusing to do CPR

Nursegoodguy, I think you lost me in that long scenerio, but I got the jist of it. The nurse that was on duty when this man initially fell is responsible. Despite his code status or prognosis, that nurse is responsible for the safety of his/her res...
  7. Does your facility make you use scripts with patients/visitors?

What is this world coming too? Good for you Rustyhammer, use the ACLU to your advantage as much as possible. The patients deserve respect, no matter what language they speak, how they pay, etc. We have scripted telephone protocol, which is seldomly...
  8. telemetry

I've worked telemetry in two different facilities. One had no tech, the RN was supposed to hopefully catch rhythm changes. The 2nd had 19 beds and 1 monitor tech of evenings and nights, otherwise the charge nurse watched the monitors.
  9. Just got the call

RHONA1, You, like us, are meant to do this in life. Hold on for the ride of your life! Prepare to experience every emotion known to woman, and more. You have chosen the most truly rewarding and noble profession. Good Luck.
  10. Nursing Education -

There is no need for debate or war. Each nurse has the ability to do whatever she/he chooses. PhD at the bedside? Not luckly. We all know a little something about cost containment. If the bedside nurse is competent and caring, the patient does no...
  11. nursing career

I'm glad people are still finding interest in nursing, especially men. I love working with the guys! Men tend to drift towards fast pace work like the ER where I work. It's a great career choice, there are plenty of possibilities. Just do your res...
  12. Survey: Do you carry medical malpractice insurance?

Nice try Brian. I believe all professionals should carry liability insurance, it draws the needed line between blue and white collar work. Not attempting to sound elitist, but it is each of our duty to protect ourselves, our practice, and our publi...
