Fired Due to Not Being Able to Get to Work

Haha. I actually like working, although for $20 a shift, the only place you'll find me is in front of the fireplace.

#s1-3 = great advice. #4 = armed robbery=bad, bad, bad. $20 cannot invest in anything. Be practical.

    Seasoned Nurses VS Newbie Nurses

This is not what the OP was suggesting.

    Seasoned Nurses VS Newbie Nurses

The new nurse has a right to ask the question. No one needs to respond if "tired" of the topic. The OP asked how to bridge between old knowledge and newer knowledge. This demonstrates thoughtfulness. When I have precepted I always ask the stude...

I didn't say it was a requirement. We advised and vent dependent patients went in.

Fired Due to Not Being Able to Get to Work

Thank you, but I maintain that bad weather is neither blizzard nor hurricane. You cannot see. I've lived through too many blizzards, followed by huricanes to think that anyone should come to work in either. I did see that letter in my search. As ...

That is why people ahead of time and prepared. Hurricanes are not surprises and do not last for days. Blizzards also do not last for days, although bad weather does. I can't say enough about facilities having disaster plans. We always had one and ...

Fired Due to Not Being Able to Get to Work

I was not trying let you reveal your identity, as I believe you are not the only nurse in your state. I just don't understand some of the comments. And I asked for the official statement, because I want to understand if there is a real expectation to...

Fired Due to Not Being Able to Get to Work

Patients that require extensive care or power in the home often go to the hospital during dangerous weather. We always recommended it for our patients. 1-3 days in a safe place beats the alternative.

Fired Due to Not Being Able to Get to Work

You cannot drive impassable roads. Maybe I'm losing my mind here, but can someone post an official statement where nurses are permitted to drive themselves in during the midst of a blizzard or hurricane? I really would like to see that. Or if ther...

That's not true! You go before the hurricane and stay. I challenge you to state the hospital name where you drove in DURING a hurricane. With all the lights out, trees down and flying bits and pieces, what hospital did you drive in to? The first b...

Fired Due to Not Being Able to Get to Work

Nurses are not supposed to be on the road if officials say so. I've been in disaster areas and plans were made ahead of time. Those who were scheduled to work, came with extra clothes and stayed. The rest of us had to be prepared to relieve them a...

She does have problem solving skills. She called ahead of time. These types of jobs use and discard people. The administrators should have had a plan for this weather in the event that an employee couldn't make it in.

I work a per diem nursing job that requires 24 hours notice for calling in sick (???). That way they can get a head start on finding someone. It actually helps if you're starting to feel sick, but not sure, although it feels very wierd to me.
