I am a veterinary technician licensed in Texas. I graduated with my associates degree in veterinary science in 2014. I love patient care and counseling pet parents about proper care and discharge instructions. Positive responsibilities include IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, bandage placement, as well as hundreds of patient therapies. I have come to realize that while my profession has so many responsibilities, the pay and respect are low. To the public, we are just janitors and holders. Our maximum wage is dramatically lower than RN starting wage with the same degree. I have decided to start over and take my love for nursing to human medicine.
This doesn't bother me right now being a Licensed Veterinary Technician, but I am concerned if this really happens to nurses. We literally specialize in animals.
