  3. books!

Check Craigslist in your area, too! I bought an expensive textbook/DVD bundle from a student who had failed the previous semester and saved myself a ton of money on that set.
  4. Same here, no special calculator needed. Most of the calculations are basic division and multiplication; plugging numbers into different formulas (eg calculation drip rate and how many milliliters to give).
  5. Vent - Uniforms!!

"Wait..we have white pants and I wear black underwear because you can't see anything underneath." I just want to know how you can wear black underwear under white and not have it visible Do you have a dark skin tone? I am pale white and black unde...
  6. advice about scrubs purchase

I'm the opposite of plus-sized (XS scrubs), but I do agree that the elastic-waisted pants are waaaaay better for ANYbody, of any weight. The tie-waist ones are a huge pain.
  7. Nursing school weight gain

"read this carefully. write it down. lock in into your longterm memory bank. EAT LESS, MOVE MORE." And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the golden nugget of truth! I gained nothing during my first semester of nursing school. If I felt hungry, I ate a ...
  8. I was on the wait list for about 33 months before I received my spot. Most people in my class (of 42) were on the list for even longer...about 36-40 months.
  9. Ironing your Scrubs

I agree with everybody who said to 1) just hang them up right out of the dryer, 2) throw them back in the dryer with a damp washcloth if they're slightly wrinkled, or 3) use Downy Wrinkle Release (though I actually use a homemade [read: cheaper] vers...
  10. When you are in NS do you do anything during the summer?

Nothing required of us, though we have an informal "reading group" formed; we plan to read most (or all) of our med/surg stuff, and possibly some of the OB/peds text, so we'll be somewhat prepared for the fall. I'm in the Denver area.
  11. Waiting Lists

42 people on the waitlist...that's ALL? :wink2: I was #1104 on our waitlist and was on it for three months shy of three years when I got my spot. When I got on the list, they were only up to something like #750. It worked out well for me as I had...
  12. Kind of bummed...My 4.0 is ruined

Hey there GeneralJinjur, nice to see you here again :heartbeat Happy snow day! Kristen, that stinks about losing the A! In the program I'm in, an A is 93% and higher...which is different from all the pre-reqs, where 90% and up was an A. Blah.
  13. Wearing scrubs to nursing school?

We have to wear ours to lab and clinicals, but not to lecture or pharm.
  14. uniform and shoes help!

Thank goodness our color is purple! Though I look like a little purple stick walking around in the scrubs LOL! Since you have to wear white, make sure to have nude-colored bras and underwear! As for shoes, I bought a pair of Dansko Professional clog...
  15. Where can I take courses online?

I've taken all my pre-reqs online at CCCOnline.org. It's a Colorado-based community college system, but we've had students from other states in several of my classes. You will need to check with your school to see if they would accept transfer cour...
