  1. Clinical nurse specialist vs. APRN?

I can't seem to be able to find the difference between the two, so what is the difference between them and what they can do?
  2. I noticed that a lot of jobs, especially in mental/ behavioral health settings require either a LCSW (licensed clinical social work) OR RN credential. Are RN's trained to provide psychotherapy as well? If that is the case why would anybody go through...
  3. Clinical nurse specialist vs. APRN?

what are the differences between the two. I have tried to look online but the answers are all ambiguous. What are the educational differences between the two? Can Nurse specialist prescribe and open a private practice as well?
  4. It seems like it goes both ways. Some people seem to think nurses have this incredible immune system and rarely get sick and other like my self think they would get sick more often because they are exposed to more? What do you think or has your exper...
  5. Blood, Guts & Bodily Fluids?

Do you have any issues with any of this when you first became a nurse and then eventually became desensitized? Most things do not bother me but there are a few things that do get to me such as REAL funky odors and vomit.
  6. Its seems to run rampant in hospitals and other healthcare facilities this time of the year.
  7. respiratory nursing? ddoes it exist?

Is there such thing as respiratory nursing? Why didn't they just make respiratory a specialty of nursing and instead created a whole new field for it with respiratory therapists?
  8. It seems like so many people from so many different fields come into nursing as career changers (ie, social work, law, education, other health fields) because there so many opportunities and nursing in a way overlaps with all of those professions. H...
  9. DNP requirements for APRN's

Thanx for the reply, but I mean ONCE the mandate is already in place. If someone decides they don't want to go all the way to their doctorate and decide to just get an MSN. What will they be able to do with just the MSN. They obviously wont be able t...
  10. DNP requirements for APRN's

If they do end up making the educational requirements to be an APRN a DNP. Then what will happen with the MSN? In other words if an RN decides to advance and get an MSN, what will they be able to do with that MSN since they would need a DNP to be an ...
  11. types of precaution measures?

If someone presents to the hospital with certain symptoms, since they (healthcare professionals) don't know right away until they run tests what it is, how do they know what kind of precautions to give beforehand? For example, if a patient comes to t...
  12. what precausionary measures do you take in case the person throwing up is infectious or if there is a chance that they might be? Do you have to wear gloves and mask since viral particles from vomit can float through air? What if the patient throws u...
  13. Clinical social worker vs RN?

Libby, it's not that it is problematic, I was just simply mentioning things that others have taught me. I mean sure no one actually "likes" bodily fluids lol, but I could handle it. The only one I may have some struggles getting over is vomit lol.
  14. Respiratory Care vs Nursing

What are the pros and cons of each profession? I know in nursing there are far more opportunities but I have also heard that respiratory therapists have more autonomy and are treated better? What's your opinion?
  15. Clinical social worker vs RN?

What would you recommend? I have been leaning towards nursing because I really like doing behavior/mental health but I figured as a nurse (if I do psych nursing) I can be involved with both the physical and psychosocial aspects of the patients unlike...
