Where I work on med/surg telemetry you will see many patient's admitted for chest pain while they complete testing, pneumonia, anemia, GI bleeds, cellulitis, CHF, Exacerbation of COPD, pancreatitis, mental status change ect, ect. We care for these patients while they run tests such as colonoscopy's and stress tests. We also will see them before and after surgeries related to these dx's. Also get them after amputations (diabetic pt's), after cholostomy's , after they have had an MI and are off the unit. It is the hospital's "melting pot" of patients and diagnoses.

It is not boring to me. I like being able to handle the miriad of problems that are med-surg. Isnt that what you do in the ER? Handle multiple problems at once? Doesnt it give you a sense of satisfaction? I do the same thing just on a larger scale. I like it.

I salute all those who work med/surg. It is a difficult work environment to handle such a wide variety of cases!!
