telemetry unit question

telemetry unit question

Has anyone had any experience on a medsurg, telemetry unit, with having Nitroglycerine drips, dopamine and Dobutrex for BP maintaince, and natrecor drip? If so, what was the nurse patient ratio? How large was the unit?

I work on a tele unit with 25 beds; day ratio is 4-5:1 and nights is 5-6:1. We take all those drips but do not titrate up. Ideally, if they are unstable enough that titration up is anticipated, they are unstable enough to go to step down where the ratio is better. In the real world, however, we do sometimes have to call and get orders to go up.

We don't have a step down unit. We have a 10 bed ICU then a 26 bed med/surg telemetry unit , then 10 more telemetry beds on another med/surg unit. My fear is that once they start putting more drips on the floor, it will only get worse for us. No beds available in ICU--put them on telemetry!
