Re: Surgical Technician?
I am a CST and it is quite different than nursing, in my opinion. If you want to be in the OR and want to see it all.. then surgery is the route to go. I love it. You will not have alot of pt interaction, other than a quick hi and the such. Your job is more on getting that room ready for the surgery, having all the supplies, keeping and maintaining your sterile field and keeping it that way. The pay (at least in the South) is in the 12.75-14.50 per hr starting range. You will also see you do quite a bit of work and take alot of "constructive crititism" as the low guy in the room. With exp in the field that does change, thou.
I must say that once you see/touch/feel internal organs/tissue/et all... it is always in your "blood"! I worked on the open heart team and it was an excellent job.
All the pre-req classes needed for nursing I needed for my CST...
