    Any patient on bedrest gets em. Post op or not. They can do no harm putting them on, but can if they are not put on.

    I had SCD's for my outpatient procedure (an endometrial ablation). Our hospital protocol calls for them on any pt. over 200#, regardless of other risk factors (or lack thereof). Better safe than sorry, but I did feel silly wearing the things when I was only going to be there for a few hours!

    Yeah we do this too. Especially with our end stage COPDers.
