Potassium replacement protocol

  1. 0 I'm in the process of developing a basic Potassium Replacement Protocol for our very small, rural facility. I was wondering what other facilities have in place in their med/surg departments.

I'm looking for something less aggressive than most critical care protocols, because our patient population is rarely that sick (they get medevac'd ASAP, if they are) and we do not insert central lines, only peripheral IV's. I'd like to develop a protocol that primarily uses oral replacement and only have aggressive IV replacement for extremely low K+, symptomatic cases.
