at my unit we've been arguing lately about bed baths. Our patients are children, ages 0 to 18, most of them after a surgical procedure (all sorts of surgeries).
What we don't know is whether we should be giving our patients full bed baths within the first 24 hours post-surgery, as they should have been washed before it anyway.
What is the practice at your unit? I've tried to find some evidence-based articles about but was unsuccessful! If you know of any research on that topic, I'd be most grateful.
On my unit (PICU), the expectation is that all patients are bathed daily, to include the day of a postoperative admission. There are exceptions for unstable patients.
