Specialties Med-Surg

Hi! I just wanted to say hello. I graduated nursing school in May, and I passed NCLEX RN in June. I feel very fortunate to have secured a job on a Med/Surg floor. I am hoping to be an active member on this board. Some of you blow me away with how much you know. I'm so impressed, and I hope you know that people like me really appreciate that you take the time to share your knowledge and expertise. Like other baby RNs, I am very nervous about starting my new job on the 23rd. I pray for a nice preceptor.

Congrats on your graduation and job!! Keep an open mind and ask questions!!!

I agree with you. I love reading the posts and hearing what everyone has to say. I can't wait to be one of the people that have the knowledge to help others on here. I too am a new RN and start my new job on a Med/Surg floor on the 23rd, lol. Who knows...maybe we are at the same hospital. I am sooo nervous. Luckily, I got hired by the hospital that I really wanted to work at. They seem to be really good with training new nurses. Good luck and let us know how you like it.

Welcome! :)

Hi, Lindsey. Thanks so much for the response. So nice to meet you. Congratulations, Nicolle! So glad to meet somebody who is also starting a new career as an RN and on the same day too. :-). Would love to keep up with you. Thanks for the welcome, Vicky!

Same here! Graduated in May, NCLEX in June, just received an offer for a med/surg/diabetes floor! Same floor I spent the last 16 weeks of school on for clinicals. I start 8/13 (my birthday) Eeek!

Specializes in Surgical/Stepdown, Home Care.

This is a great thread, and I've also been sifting through this forum like crazy - I graduated with my BSN this past May, and I also start on a surgical floor next week. Like the rest of you, I'm excited and terrified (I'm trying to preemptively come up with a good organizational system before I start). I'm sure in the coming weeks we'll all be comparing notes, as well as hopefully getting some sanity checks from the pro veteran med-surg nurses here. :D

Olliesmommy-- congratulations! You certainly must have impressed somebody!! Many of my classmates are having a really hard time obtaining employment. My heart really goes out to them because they are all exceptional nurses. I wish you luck in your new position. Happy birthday too! It's right around the corner! Alibee-- congratulations to you as well! I'm so glad to meet people in the same situation. This was actually something I was hoping for. Everybody keeps telling me that I need a good support system. Nobody fully understands what nurses go through unless they are a nurse or have been a nurse before.

Congratulations on passing boards and your new job! That's awesome!!!! I graduated this past December and I just started my first job as well in an ICU!!! I am nervous but also very excited! So far it has been a great experience and I look forward to the months ahead!!!!!
