New RN to med/surg

by nrsman1

Hello all. I have been an LPN for about six months and work on an inpatient rehab floor. I will be graduating from nursing school with my RN in December and was wonder is you regular nurses agree that med/surge is necessary for a new grad befor he/she moves to a specialty, like OR. I am debating because to be honest I liked my OR and med/surg rotations. What do you all think?

Congrats on your upcoming graduation! I don't think you can go wrong doing med-surg first, but I have friends who went right to the OR (or other specialties) as a new grad. In this economy, it may be whatever opportunity arises. Good luck.
