Most important, commonly used meds in real world?

I'm a student heading into her med-surg rotation and wanted to get a head start on memorizing common meds.

If I could get suggestions for the meds you see every day, or maybe less common but critical to know inside and out....I would sooo- appreciate the guidance!

Anxiety: zanex, valium, ativan

Respiratory: singulair, albuterol, atrovent, Advair, Spiriva, mucomyst

Diurectic: Lasix

BP: Toprol, lopressor

Potassium (K+): (to replace lost K+ during the admin of the Lasix or HCTZ or from the alcoholic that dehydrated him/herself!)

Know your IV fluids:
0.9% Sodium Chloride (or NS; normal saline)
0.45 Sodium Chloride (1/2 NS)
Dextrose 5% with water (D5W)
Dextrose 5%, 0.45% Sodium Chloride with 20mEq of Potassium Chloride (D5 1/2NS with 20 KCL).
{These r the most common ones I give.}

Another IV antibiotic: flagyl

Good luck!
