Kudos to floor nurses - page 3

I work in the ICU. I send a very difficult pt to the floor (behaviorally) and couldn't imagine taking care of 5-8 more pts on top of that. I couldn't mentally handle that job, so thank you for... Read More

Thanks, everyone! I never thought I'd be a MedSurg nurse nearly seven years after graduation (dear Heavens I AM OLD!) but I am thankful for all of my experience on the floor!

Sometimes, ICU and ED nurses don't have the same attitudes y'all have. We all have our own strengths. I've been told I could be a great ICU nurse but for the love of Fuzzy, do NOT let me be a psych nurse! Hats off to them (and everyone else!)

    Thanks again.

Also, thanks for taking my patients after I get them back after that "let's push one last epi" with broken ribs and a jacked up family situation.

I challenge ANY ICU/CCU RN to walk one shift in the shoes of a M/S Nurse. The M/S Nurse depends on their assessment skill, knowledge base and gut whereas the ICU/CCU Nurse has all the modern technology to care for their patients. Kudos to the M/S Nurse. You work in the realm of a speciality of its own! Congrats to you!

I give my utmost respect to the MS nurses for the patient loads they have to take. It takes a strong person to deal with that. I could not do it permanently. And yes I have, as an ICU nurse, walked more than one shift in the shoes of a MS nurse.
BUT..... I am pretty damn sure ICU nurses "depend on their assessment skill, knowledge base and gut" while caring for their patients also. Just because we have "modern technology" doesn't mean we don't use/need basic nursing skills!!!

Way to perpetuate the "us against them" attitude.

It's a inspiration to see nurses supporting nurses especially in the current environment. Let's keep supporting each other and realize what power we have to create a safe practice for our patients and ourselves. We need to band together and keep our support like this thread going! All nurses rock! This is awesome.

Agreed, I thought the same thing. I don't get why we can't just appreciate the amazing skills our colleagues have instead of continually trying to one-up each other. All of us, for each different department, are AMAZING.

Personally, my kudos goes to the LTC, psych, oncology, hospice, palliative care nurses. I could never do what you do, you are a special bunch of people to be able to do what you do every day. Hugs!

It was never easy being a nurse. The pressures and the expectations are very high but whenever I see patients recovered and saying a simple "thank you", it makes my profession worthwhile.

I have been a nurse on a post-op med-surg unit for one year now that has tested my sanity more than a few times but what I have learned in that time has been priceless. It feels great to hear all these praises & recognitions. But all nurses deserve it!
ICU, your mental skill levels blow my mind.
ER, I can only hope I can be that quick in ability as well as have that much patience.
Psyc, hats off to you around the board as I don't know how you do it but thank God someone is willing to.
PEDI, that terrifies many of us so kudos.
    L&D, 2-for-1 so enough said.
Oncology & Hospice, it takes a special person to be able to do what you do.
OBS, I would lose my mind at the amount of admits & discharges you have to deal with every day.
Geriatrics, we don't even need to explain that one so hats off.
The list could go on but we all deserve a pat on the back & a job well done!
