Taking the test to be certified as a Med/Surge RN in the morning. Any words of wisdom? Advice? I've heard from a lot of people on this site that the test really isn't very hard, and have heard from ONE person at work that it is.

For my part, I haven't really studied. Our manager really didn't provide us with any materials to study; the last group to take the test had these materials. I've been kinda looking at it as an achievement test, and I'll just let my knowledge and common sense guide me... I guess. :chuckle

Since today is now THE DAY, let us know how you think you did. I wish you the best on the test. Good luck.

Well, I survived. That's about all I can say right now. I'm afraid that in the end, that may be ALL that I can say; that I made it through the test!

I've only been a nurse for a little over two years, so it wouldn't really upset me that much if I flunked it, except that last spring ALL the nurses from my floor who took the test passed it, including three nurses who have been nurses as long as I have been now.

If I flunk, I'm going to be embarrassed, especially if everyone else passes!

I am studying for the med/surg certification. I've been a nurse for 30 years. We have not one med/surg nurse who is certified. We have several in CCU and one on OB but no med/surg. I hear some hospitals require med/surg certification and even pay for the test? I'm doing it as a personal goal so I'll be paying my own way and no increase in pay. Good Luck on your test.

I became a CMSRN myself last year, and I remember being pleasantly surprised that the exam was pretty much everyday medical/surgical nursing.......if you've been paying attention to what you've been doing the past couple of years, you more than likely passed it.:)

Don't sweat it.......you may have to wait a few weeks before you receive your results and credentials.

I'll say a prayer and keep my fingers crossed for you.:p

All you can do is wait now. Until you get the results, just focus now on what you do best and enjoy doing.

Wish you the best!

do you need a BSN to become certified -- I have a BA and a MA so I was just wondering if I would be eligible after I finish my 2 years on a med surg unit

The best way to answer this is that you need to review the requirements for that certification and "level" of certification. A certain level may require the BSN and the next level up will quite often require the MSN. But, check first with that particular certification board. You should be able to find them online (web site).

Took the exam - Computer-Based, and all I can say is ... the exam was hard, partly because I only reviewed for a week ... LoL !!! But I did pass ... and you will know right away the results when you're done with all the questions and you submit your answers. ALL MEDSURG questions .. mostly case studies - which make the entire exam MEDSURG-ish ... LoL !!! Good Luck to those taking the exam too!
