The flu in South Texas

Specialties Med-Surg

I'm here in South Texas and the flu is really REALLY starting to show itself.

Where are you and what's your area flu status??

Just read on WebMD that this years flu shot is not very effective as the

flu bug is a different strain than what is covered in the flu shot....

Just wondering - - - - since I am at home with the flu....

very weak, sore, sick................

Lots of patients coming in and many nurses calling in.............

I am a staffing nurse and weekend before last I had 13 call ins. This is in a LTC facility and we use no agency and have no PRN backup. My job was about close to hell as you can get that weekend. I live in N TX and today I am not feeling so hot....I pretty much think it is everywhere though....:uhoh3:

we have had some call ins in central Louisiana...not many residents sick...but i guess that is around esp if the flu shot is not very effective...sorry to hear about that

When does flu season end? I remember being diagnosed with it spring break (mid-March) of 1995. So by April, is everyone pretty much safe?

I think i heard last night that officially the flu season is over mid february. But we all know thats not necissarily the case. I think we usually offer the flu shots until mid to late february sometime. Here it is just in the last couple weeks taking hold. Some calling off,, some working thru it.

It took me about 5 days to get over the worst part, aches, sneezes, etc. Cough is still hanging on though.
