Patient had chest pain at beginning shift, 2 hours behind all day, got a heart cath, tech lazy,dinemapp problems, I was sweaty, transfused blood, families OMG!, too many accuchecks, now they're locking the refrigerator where insulin is, where's key? IV's infiltrated, pager not working, 6 patients, I love my job!

Reported off to night shift:

BED 1:Afib finally slowed down after 3 cardizem boluses/Dig IV/ Lopressor x 3 IV/po Lopressor & Cardizem gtt. Also on Heparin.

BED 2: MAT rate down to 150 from 200s on Cardizem protocol/K 2.8./BP a little low.

BED 3:AMS s/p head trauma/ wife wants to sue pt's workplace so careful on documentation.

BED 4: Complete AV block but shockingly tolerating okay with normal BP/ pacer pads on pt just in case.

BED 5: Ornery little old man being d/c'ed but we're trying to stall him as he insists he will be driving himself home after IV narcotics.

HALL BED: Near syncope with no veins who's already had blood recollected twice due to hemolyzed specs and whose IV has just infiltrated.

HALL BED 2: No clue, they wheeled them over 2 minutes before shift change.

Gotta love the ER!

Anemic 1900 admit, PRBCs in, pleeease ring for us.

70 yo's aspirating.

249: I'm no psych nurse.

85 yo--no v-tach tonight, still refusing PO.

okidoki.......you got doubles. I work tomorrow, charge, I may need doubles myself tomorrow.

Charge today, no patients for me ! 11 admits, 17 discharges, fingers tired of typing, no drama queen nurses today, horray ! actually got to eat lunch, although not uninterrupted, Doc's behaved today, one GI bleed to OR, one heart cath had a minor bleed, all in all a very good day.

Fight in the kitchen...trustee to medical with a shiner to Lt. eye. Icepack...incident report number one...suicidal psycho inmate refusing to put gown on...fighting officers...restraint chair...incident report number two...screened 5 new federal inmates...all had medical problems...orders to write...9pm med pass to 250 imates.... :rotfl:

That's my 50 words...but I have to throw in there one thing--thank goodness there are 2 nurses on evening shift and that night happened to be my best bud working with me! She and I make a dynamic duo!!

81 PT's ,3 on Hospice, one family, "she isn't DYING fast enough" for, 2 insulin reactions, one fall, one death....somedays Prozac isn't enough....

Hospital on critical diversion, adequately staffed, amazing!, family member complaining about speck of blood under IV opsite for hours, asking everyone, getting the same answer, oh please let it go already, 6 pts, no discharges for me, no admissions for me, what a good day! Not pooped after 12 hours, amazing!

Cussed by an OD lady... charcoal all over scrubs.... Head bleed, intubation, mannitol accident. Now scrubs are black/white when started out blue. Nobody can speak English! stroke one TPA given.

Lunch time! Chest pain, then guy whos rectum itched and used a steak knife to scratch it. Hello colostomy!

Admit called r/o TIA, young, bipolar, slurred speech, dizzy. Suspect drugs/ETOH?

K = 1.8 :eek: . Slurring ---> Circumoral edema ---> allergic rx to amox. s/p ear infection---> epi/benadryl in ambulance. KCL infiltrated, Pt screaming. 12 bruises from bad sticks. Applied ice, new site first try, added IVFs downline.

Luckily we managed to get out without an admit...it was a goo day!
