What was your first code blue like & how did you respond to it.

My first code blue was during an RRT. I was fortunate enough to catch the deterioration. It was a good experience for me even though it occurred at the beginning of the shift because I had my handy dandy brain with me all filled up with the pertinent information. Knowing my stuff made it very low stress.

My first code blue was as a new grad, that hadn't been off orientation for too long. It was a 3 month old baby, that I had taken care of the day before, the the nurse was getting ready to d/c. Instead, the child has a grand mal sz (no hx) and stops breathing). They worked on that kid for over an hour, and got him back. I just remember trying to comfort the mom who was a nervous wreck. Surprisingly the kid didn't seem to suffer neurologically from the incident
