Just curious if anyone does med-surg float and how do u like it? How much more is the pay vs. regular med-surg hourly rate??

I have several friends in our float pool and they love it! I love to float to other units though. Our float pool RNs get paid $23/hr and our regular floor nurses make $20/hr. These are for day shift RNs, and night shift RNs you can add $3 more to the above rates.

I started in the float pool right out of school and love it. My hospital doesn't pay more $, they offer other incentives. I only work one weekend a month and one summer, one winter holiday per year (unless I choose to work more.) Most of the time I can schedule myself at work around what is going on in my family's life. I can switch back and forth between 4, 8 or 12 hour shifts, nights and days.

I did float pool for med/surg for one of my first jobs out of school. I was very intimitates at first, but learned more than I could imagine... This has been my foundation for my nursing practice of 10 years. I went to 32 different units... I worked at Mayo in Rochester, MN... The best job that I ever had...

I did not get paid anymore, but did not feel the politics of a specific floor... I was on my own more and did enjoy that a lot... Good luck...

Hi, I just got hired for the float pool at our local hospital. I'm a new LVN graduate. It's for the night shift. Any tips for a newbie like me? I'll start next week. The majority of my clinical time was in Med/Surg and some in other departments. Thanks!!
