what do you have to do when you give thorazine?
this was a test question.
do check BP before or after?
do u lay the pt flat and monitor every 30min.

I would check BP on patients new to Thorazine since it can cause hypotension.

causes orthostatic hypotension and anticholinergic effects dry mouth, blurred vision,urinary retention, photophobia constipation, tachycardia.

Good answer above for implications, and what to tell the patient. But perhaps they were looking for "check to see that the patient has swallowed it" by asking them to open their mouth, since it is an antipsychotic med.

It would probably be orthostatic BP's, lying, sitting and standing, before and after.
Although check that patient swallowed it is highly important. It may indeed be the answer, if it was a choice.
