Re: Bicillin injections -
- BICILLIN® L-A is intended for intramuscular injection ONLY. Do not inject into or near an artery or nerve or intravenously. Do not admix with other intravenous solutions.2
- BICILLIN® L-A should be administered by deep, intramuscular injection in the upper, outer quadrant of the buttock. In neonates, infants, and small children, the midlateral aspect of the thigh may be preferable. When doses are repeated, vary the injection site.2
Because of the high concentration of suspended material in the syringe, inject at slow steady rate IM as above.

Bicillin LA (penicillin G benzathine) used for treatment syphillis while
Bicillin CR ( penicillin G benzathine and penicillin G procaine) used for moderately severe to severe infections of the upper-respiratory tract, scarlet
fever, erysipelas, and skin and soft-tissue infections due to susceptible streptococci.
Dosing and formulation ARE different but administration IM is the same.
When inverting syringe for injection, air bubble will be at top and used to prevent tissue leakage. Length of action is 4-5 days as slow release preparation.
