Beta Blockers and Diabetes


What should I be aware of when medicating a Patient with Beta Blocker therapy(Metoprolol/Lopresor)? I was asked by a Professor and I am stumped.

Your responsibility before administering Beta blocker is to check for respiratory rate of the patient because it causes respiratory depression as far as i know...

a beta blocker causing respiratory problems? never heard that. I've always checked the apical pulse before giving beta blockers.
