A question on Lyrica

by GLORIAmunchkin72 Premium Member

When this med is discontinued do you guys return the unused pills for credit to pharmacy or do you destroy them?

At the hospital I work for, Lyrica is a controlled drug we have to pull out of they Pyxis, so we never have to destroy or send it back. I would think it's probably a pretty expensive drug (aren't they all from the hospital?!?), and if it was me, I would want credited for the drugs I did not use.

Depends on your facility's and pharmacy's policy.

The last 2 weeks we've had to destroy an exorbitant amount due to change of order which left me wondering who is paying for all that? It wouldn't be right for the residents to pay for it (unless they agree to it), I think.

The residents pay or, at least, their insurance company does. Who else should? If your doctor changes your meds mid-month you do, no?

I feel like the families should be given a choice as to what they want to do with the meds since they paid for them. I cannot count how many times we destroyed a whole card of Vicodin only for it to be reordered a couple of days later.

We destroy all narcs and DACs, including Lyrica. If it's double locked, it gets destroyed.
