Hi, new as mds nurse. wanted something different, little less direct patient care-so this is where i am.

i work in a "short term long term" facility which is housed on a floor of our local hospital. multiple daily admissions and discharges. when i was offered the job "10-14 patients" , m-f 8 hour days. 2 weeks into training it exploded. now im on my own and im pushing papers so hard/fast trying to meet assessment deadlines, 20-24 patients. i dont have time to breath. im working saturdays, 12 hour days and still feel like im chasing my tail. im doing the entire mds assessment. other disciplines are capable of completing their part but expectations are ?low.

HELP!! is this the norm?

How long are your short term people staying? Are you trying to "overwork" the system. For example comprehensive careplans aren't due for 7 days after RAPS. If someone is scheduled to go home prior to day 21.. are you doing all this work anyways? Are you doing admission assessments on those that aren't schedule to stay 14 days?

thanks! i was trained to complete the mpaf or short form 5day assessement. then to complete full/comprehensive 14day assessment w/raps and care plan, with raps and careplan locked by day 14. we usually dont have a target discharge date, some times they are discharged day 2-3 or may be there 30 -60days or more. not ever intending to "overwork" the system or myself. i would love to know how to eliminate any unnecessary steps.
