    I have heard much debate that hospice decreases your CMI in 3.0. What is all the misconseption about? All thoughts appreciated.

    Hospice can impact case mix for the bad. The reason being, you may have someone who has a weight of 2.88, and they go Hospice. With 3.0 you have I believe 2 weeks to do a significant change, therefore losing that score. On the flip side, you could potentially pick them back up in the quarter and maybe get them in a clinically complex score at least. Or, if they go Hospice toward the end of the quarter, you could wait to do their significant change so that you wouldn't lose the score for the quarter. Hope this helps!
