Salem State College

I'm a junior at salem state. I applied as an LPN and was immediately accepted into their program in January of this year. I already had an Associate's degree and had 3 electives required to complete the degree. For applicants trying to get into the program, all science, math, history, and reading (Literature, etc.) are required prior to taking nursing courses. If you're an LPN, the school is now requiring you to complete ALL non-nursing electives prior to taking any nursing courses because they now have a large flow of LPN's applying into the program. There are about 49 students in the Med-Surg class right now. It's a great program!

I graduated with my BSN from SSC in 2008. I did it in 3 years while going full-time year-round. I thought the nursing program was very fair. I was able to work full-time throughout the program. SSC does not help with job placement though, just be aware of that in these hard times. Some of my classmates are still without jobs and I know some peers from 2007 who still are as well.

I also graduated SSC with my BSN in 2008. I did it in four years...as SarahBeth mentions, I also thought the nursing program was very fair. They seemed to discourage working more than a certain number of hours a week, but it was completely do-able to work, and many if not most of us worked part time or full time...I lived on campus and worked part time for Residence Life, and per diem as a nurse tech at a hospital in Boston.

SSC is the best nursing program around

I graduated in dec 2007 and having transfer from another college, i can assure you that SSC professor are very caring and willing to help eventhough poremba is a b... lol

Did they accept most of your credits? How many non-nursing classes are they asking you to complete?

Yes they did, I still have to take A&P I&II and Stats.You should also know that SSC does not have pre reqs per se, there is 1 application process for both admissions to the college and nursing program. Once accepted you take the required classes and eventually matriculate into the nursing program.
