Northeastern Direct-Entry NP

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hi,

Years ago I met with the director of this program and really loved it. Over the past 2+ years I've been doing the prereqs and volunteering at a hospital. It began to go to the backburner because I felt an accel BSN would be a better choice. Well now that I am ready to apply :yeah: I can't get this program out of my head as being the top choice. SO I'm aiming on the GRE's for Sept to apply for their deadline. Just wanted to see if any students could provide some input on their experience there, and post graduation. I had a NP a few years ago at Harvard Vanguard in Copley who was a graduate and said such great things. I also can see that only Northeastern students get these intern positions at MGH (I'm sure there are internships open to all as well, but I see just Northeastern ones- I'm an employee at Partners). This makes me think they have an advantage... anywho, any feedback would be sooo greatly appreciated!!:redbeathe

Thanks!

This is exactly what admissions told me (I emailed last week, got this reply on Sunday)

"I am not sure about the progress for the application decision but I believe the program coordinator will be updating your application status on the website where you submitted your application, if she hasn't already."

So basically, at this point I'm thinking I didn't get in, they're just waiting to reject me and I should start planning on Pitt's ABSN for the fall (where I have already been accepted).

I'm literally refreshing the application page every 10 minutes!!

Scratch that, every 5 minutes. Jenki, I'm so jealous you have another option to pursue. I applied to 4 schools and am waitlisted at 1, an have yet to hear from 3 (NEU being my top choice). If I don't get accepted anywhere im going to jump off a cliff, and then move somewhere tropical and maybe try a less "direct" route to becoming an NP. And probably adopt a few cats. = P

Hale.bale - I'm with you on the every 10 minutes refresh!! (except let's be honest here, I've really been doing that all week!)

I consider myself VERY lucky to have already been accepted to Pitt, even if it is only for ABSN and I will have to reapply to be an NP. I got into this year's app cycle VERY late in the game, as I didn't for sure decide that I was applying for fall 2012 until about October, and just registered to finish some prereqs (Micro, A&P, Lifespan Development) starting this semester. I still have to take A&P II in the summer, so I'm wondering if that is why they are reluctant on me? I have the healthcare experience and my GPA was fairly good in undergrad and very good in grad school, so I really don't know what else it could be.

I wonder if all the waitlisted people found out, and now all of us are just screwed!

Its hard because I didn't expect to have an interview anywhere and now that I have had two interviews I feel like I was given false hope. I was really hoping for Vanderbilt that was number 1 for me but I was waitlisted and it broke my heart

got my rejection letter today...and my online application was never updated with a decision, bummer.

@hale.bale The hybrid program is not the same as their traditional program. The lectures would be offered online, but all the lab and clinical work would be the same. The big drawback is that if you go through their hybrid program, right now you would only be able to specialize in Nursing Administration. They said we could have the option of working for 6-9 mos as an RN after the initial portion, but we would have to apply to the other tracks and compete with the other students to get in. If I wanted to do that, I would be applying for an accelerated BSN, not to the direct-entry. It's just a gamble with our educations if we decide to go through the hybrid program to try to get some other specialty.

I'm sorry ahm. I know it's disappointing. You'll get through it, and in to an amazing program.

I also got my rejection letter in the mail today, and my application status was never updated online. Therefore, I'll be attending another program!

I got my letter today too. Flat-out rejected. At least I know, I suppose. Though I wish we all could go, at least we're not alone. My status wasn't updated online either.

I never had an interview and nothing was updated online, and I was just accepted into the hybrid program. I am so confused...

what are you guys thinking about the hybrid program? any info on it? gonna do it?
