by MermaidRN57 Aug 8, '12Hi everyone,
I graduated last year with a BSN, couldn't find a job close to home in Boston, and ended up moving out of state of find a hospital nursing job. I've been at my job (My position has me doing both a floor and an ICU stepdown) for 8 months now, but really want to move closer to home. I know the hospital nursing situation in Boston has not changed, and that nurses far more experienced than me can't find jobs in hospitals, but do I have any shot at all of finding a non-hospital job? Like an office or a clinic? Or are experienced nurses having trouble finding even those? The job certainly doesn't need to be directly in Boston (suburbs out to Burlington, or Lexington, etc.) is fine - just want to be in the general Boston area to see family and friends. Just wondering what the current situation is for those of us who have a little experience, but aren't seeking hospital positions. Thanks!

- Aug 10, '12 by KelRN215I think it is. I had no trouble finding a non-hospital job when I wanted to change jobs this year. I do have 5 years of experience though.

And chaisaci, where are you seeing these listings? I've been searching indeed.com and am not seeing a whole lot outside of hospital jobs. Are you using a different website? They have a ton of nursing jobs and smaller employers like to post there because it doesn't cost as much as other sites like monster. Thanks for the replies so far. - Aug 18, '12 by mama.RNI work in an office north of Boston with little experience...found it by word of mouth but it was also on craiglist. Required a few years of experience, but I applied anyway and got lucky. You can also try "simplyhired.com". It's a search engine that searches other search engines, if that makes sense. So it includes all listings from other jobsites as well as hospital, office, and clinic listings among others. Good luck, I do think things are getting better.
