just wondering if anyone else is attending southeastern next month? I was also wondering if anyone had gone there still has any books they would like to get rid of?Some of the books are a new edition this year but some arent so maybe if someone wants to sell them post back...I know its a random shot in the dark but i figured maybe someone may be on this site that had gone there. I have a few questions....like when is their breaks?...and if they are affiliated with any daycares(sometimesdaycare providers give a student discount if you enroll your child there)? I am worried about puttin my son into daycare i have never been away from him for the amount of time. Id like to know if they consider a certain place to go to be the best for their school hours and if they reccomend them. I am gonna call and ask next week when I have my financial aid confirmation but i was just wondering since its crunch time and i need to start looking at other palces if they dont.....so if you have gone and think you have any advice that you wish someone had gave you, let me know! i would really appreciate it!

Hi

I just graduated from the program on July 2. As far as day care is concerned they don't get involved in that part of it, you need to take care of that part of it yourself. The program is very difficult. It is a 10 month program and they cram alot of information into your head in that time frame. There are alot of tests and you need to maintain a 75 average to go on in the program so plan for lots of study time. There will be 40 students in the beginning but I can guarantee you 40 won't graduate. Our class graduated with 34.

They are sticklers about attendance and you can only take 9 days off for the entire year.

The instructors are really good though, and are good teachers.

My advice to you is to take good notes. Don't take a day off unless you really need to. If you don't need to work during the program, then don't.

Plan for lots of study time.

Good Luck

I am looking into attending this program. Does anyone know what the schedule is like for the evening program?

I believe the program is 2 yrs in length. You will be in school from 4:30pm till 9:30pm 4 nights a`week. no school on fridays. You will have the summers off. Clinicals might run a little later than 9:30.

Program starts in January of even numbered years. So the next program doesnt start until Jan 2010. You can go their website for more information.

You will have to take a pre entrance exam, and do well to be accepted into the program.

hope this helps

Hey, I just graduated from there as well in July. Apparently it is against the law to see if anyone has books from the program, but oh well, I still have all of mine and do not need them. I use the same screen name for all my accounts and you can sometimes find me on AIM. I will more than likely be heading to Southeastern on Monday 9/8 to drop off my old uniforms to anyone who wants them. They are a Men's Medium in case you were wondering. As for any advice on the program, just focus on your own work and be able to adapt to new situations. If you don't let things get to you and just do what your told you will do just fine. There is no secret to it, just keep up with the assignments, pay attention in clinical, don't get involved in the "he said/she said" of the class, and don't be nervous...thousands of people have been through the program, it's not some elite fraternity so it is very doable. The people who got booted last year were either trying to work 50+ hours and maintain a good GPA, got pregnant and thought they could go through nursing school and give birth at the same time, made extreme clinical errors (lots of them), or just plain did not get the concept of what a nurse does. You will do fine, you will be bogged down with work, you will probably not go out as much as you used to, you will probably gain weight due to becomming lazy and not eating good food and you will finish the course before you know it! Trust me, July comes at ya real fast. Good Luck.

thanks for the advice. Now that the first day has come and gone, alot of the stress and anxiety has calmed down. We got alot of reading assignments but i also got a babysitter so that I could get them all done. The last thing I need is to fall behind right at the beginning. Everyone seems to be pretty nice and i hope it stays that way. So have you taken the boards? My friend graduated from Bristol plymouth, i think, in June. I havent talked to her since right before she was going to take it but I was wondering, where would be a good place to start out once you are licensed. Have you gone out for any jobs yet?...I know she was looking around at a few places but i never found out what came of all the applications. Well thanks again for all the advice, july really isnt that far away and i hope im not one of those people that gain all that weight!!!!May see ya monday...theres a couple guys in the class...not sure what size they are...but thats very generous of ya...hope to hear back from ya

I dropped off a few uniforms and a lab coat there today. I dropped by just before lunch time and stayed for an hour or so. Also, I put a list of books I have for sale up at the bulletin board in case you or anyone you know needs any books. As for the boards and all that, I wouldn't worry too much about them now. They are pretty easy to be honest, I thought it was a bit of a joke while I was taking them, but apparently the board people know what they are doing. Honestly, I am a realist, would you really expect to make it through school and not pass your boards? I'd hope you would lol. As for jobs, I know most of the people I have talked to have gotten jobs in psych facilities, LTC, MD's offices, and rehab or detox facilities. If your schedule is open and you don't mind working 40hour days then you can pretty much get a job anywhere. I am in school again now so I needed a weekend evening/night shift and most places don't hire all too often for that shift. I wound up getting a job at a psych hospital for $22.50 to start plus shift dif and weekend pay. Most everyone I have talked to seems to be getting low to mid 20's for may without any dif's added in. I know most community hospitals don't even start their RN's out that high, usually low 20's. Anyway, if you have any questions about anything just shoot me a message, good luck!
