Do I absolutely need to have chemistry completed before I apply at Quincy? I have all the prereqs done from Massasoit where they didnt require a chemistry, would Quincy accept those? There was some chemistry in the Massasoit Biological Principles class. I only applied to Massasoit, but now I am considering applying to Quincy after reading here that the deadline is extended, but I don't have a chemistry done. Would they take me? I could take a chem over the summer.

Glad to see this post! I think I might go and apply as they extended the deadline! I have all prereqs done as well. HOWEVER I took the placement test and did great in reading but math I was some odd points off :-( so I have to go in and retake it. I am horrible with timed math tests. I get sweaty, nervous laughter etc.

So the days you spend in class/clinical is 3x a week? is that right?

gl everyone

They will not let you apply if you have not completed the pre-req's. I am taking my last 2 pre-req's right now and when I went into the advising office to get the Nursing application, they checked to see if my pre-req's would be completed prior to the deadline. I was then told that I can't hand in my application until after my last day of classes.

Sorry :(

I am not good with math tests of any kind! I took the test and did well and I can still take it 1 more time before the new deadline.

I suggest that you just review Math as much as you can before you take the test again. I searched the internet and found a bunch of math review info that was really helpful for me. Remember it is only 20 math questions and you have about 2 hours to complete the entire test.

I am currently debating whether or not I should schedule another test to see if I can do better than I did my first time.

I am trying to decide if I should take the test again. I took it once and got 110 Reading 112 Sentence skills and 106 math. I am thinking I should be good with those scores, but I am really nervous at the same time

Thank you for sharing - it's great to have answers! I could take a chem and an algebra then apply to Quincy. Do they have a spring semester start as well as a fall start?

Those scores sound very good- is there a recommended score they like to see?

cally527, I think your scores are great. I don't think you need to take them again.

CMA- call and ask to speak with **** (in admissions) - admission counselor for nursing. She's great and very helpful, and she had her name and signature on the acceptance letters. I think the parttime program starts in the spring but I am not sure. She told me their parttime program is 2.5 yrs and is even more competative to get in. I wonder where everyone else lives. I just happen to live in Quincy, don't know if that will make it more convenient as to where I am placed for clinicals. If you are going to take chemistry this summer, I took it in Summer 1 at Massasoit last summer, and was very nervous about taking it since I never had it in High School. Professor **** at massasoit was incredible, I highly recommend him.

Phina70, thank you for the referral for a chem professor- I see **** is highly recommended on ratemyprofessor. I have been apprehensive to take my chem - now feeling more hopeful! Also petrified of algebra, and wondering if an online level 1 course may be a better choice rather than trying to keep up in a fast pace class. Another fear of the unknown! I'll touch base with admissions at Quincy too- everyone on this forum is so generous and supportive!!

CMA-lpn you are very welcome. I don't know if algebra is a pre-req to stats, But What about statistics? instead if algebra? Thats a Math. even if you are going for an assoc's RN most BSN programs req Stats, that way you can get that out of the way if you pursue a BSN later. I enjoyed that as well. I took statistics at Massasoit with *****, he was great! even those uncomfotable with Math did well. he's very patient and thorough.

CMA_TO_LPN The FT RN program only starts in the fall. The PT program starts every January. The application period for PT is 4/15/12 to 7/15/12. I have been told that the pt program is VERY hard to get into as they only have about 30 spots.

As for the test, the minimum scores they will allow is 95 Reading 96 Sentence Skills and 75 Math. The maximum you can get on each section is 120.

From what I understand, they look at the Reading score first. If your score is tied with another student, then they compare the sentence skills score and it that is tied as well they move on to the Math score.

One of the girls in my Chem class told me that she spoke with someone in admissions and there are only 15 spots left in the FT program. This is not helping my anxiety about getting into the program at all lol!

Cally, did you schedule your accuplacer exam yet? Hopefully you have or will schedule soon. Schedule it for within a few days or week time, and study this weekend, particularly reading comprehension. Take the exam and hopefully you get a 95 or more and apply asap, the same day. Make sure you have your official transcripts. HS transcripts, test scores and whatever they need. I don't think QC needs a recommendation letter or personal statement. I was discouraged too and made it. Don't give up! you are taking chem now, have you done any other sciences? and do yo have other courses taken and out of the way? it's good to get them done.
