Advice needed from OR nurses

  1. I am taking peri-op certificate program and will be doing 24 hours of clinical weekly for 16 weeks. Would it be possible to work 24 hours a week and keep up after completion? An OR nurse told me that I would need 40 hours a week for at least 1 year to be comfortable working. Any advice is appreciated.

I'm new in the OR since one month, no peroperative courses or anything, everybody tell me that I will be confortable in one year and good in two years, and I do believe it is true, there is so much to learn and practice, and what you don't do on a regular basis you forget, but you see my orientation is 12 weeks of 40 hours...so it is not a big difference with you if I understand well, you will have really good basics skills after 4 months and continue to learn after ...Good luck to you!

Every facility is different, but our facility requires 2 years for getting comfortable.
