Accepted: Simmons Dix Scholar Nursing Program!!!

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hello everyone!

I'm new posting on this site but I have been around reading other peoples comments.

I wanted to start a thread for students that have been accepted to the Simmons nursing program entering fall 2012 as well as students that have attended and graduated from this program.

Please leave any comments, I am eager to read what everyone has to say.

Here is a bit about my self:

This will be my first degree, I attend Roxbury Community College and will receive my AS in Health Science by the end of the summer (while working full-time). It sure has not been an easy task. I had my back up plan, with the competitiveness of nursing programs I never imagined that I would get accepted to any school in Boston. Needless to say, my excitement has not been easy to contain and I smile to myself every time I think about what awaits for me in the near future.

Congrats!! I am trying to patiently wait to find out my admissions results, but it is tough! When did you get your admissions letter, today?

Specializes in Adult Internal Medicine.

Congrats! I thought DIX was only for previous BA/BS degrees. That's great you can go from AS to BSN in one shot!I have had some classes with DIX students, and a few from my cohort moved into the DIX program. I am sure you will enjoy it. Be prepared to work!

Thanks! I received my letter this past Friday. I received a call from my admissions counselor on Wednesday (she left a voice mail but no info). I submitted everything the last week of December. The status on my site never update so in the middle of January, I had to call them to confirm that they received all of my information, they confirmed that they did and she told me that they review the applications at the end of every month so I should hear something from them in the beginning of this month.

When did you submit everything?

Congrats! I thought DIX was only for previous BA/BS degrees.

The Dix is for student 24 year old and over. I am very nervous and I can't wait to start the program and I ready to work hard. Hard work has gotten me to where I am now, I'm not stopping any time soon.

:)

I submitted almost everything in October - then the last of it the end of December as well (just last semester's transcript for pre-requisites. I have gotten back my Transfer Credit Evaluation from Sarah Hurd, so I know they are processing everything. The status when I check online is "File under review for completeness." I applied to start in the Summer as well - so I am hoping I hear soon. I might have to defer to the Fall to ensure all my pre-requisites are all set though.

I was also under the impression that Dix was for a second bachelor's, but maybe I was mistaken! Anyways, congrats! Cross your fingers for me, I am hoping I will get some news this week either way.

Out of curiosity, are you in the 18-month Dix program or is your curriculum longer?

I think you should call your admissions counselor is you haven't done so already, just to confirm that they received everything. When I called mine she immediately submitted my file for review. As long as you have most of the science courses out of the way you can still get in. If you are taking required courses this semester or the summer you can resubmit a credit evaluation. I call the Nursing admission office yesterday and was told that all I need to complete is my Organic Chem which I'm working on this semester.

So the Dix program has three options:

Two-year and three-year options for students without a bachelors but they must have all of the pre-requisites complete, basically all the science courses along with some humanities or electives. They also need to take the TEAS exam. (I took it and I thought I did horrible)

Then they have the 18-month program which is for students that already have a bachelor degree.

Stay positive, I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Keep me posted, maybe we will see each other in the fall.

I do not qualify for the 18-month, so my plans are to complete the two-year program.

Ah! That makes more sense! I emailed Laura (my admissions counselor) on 1/3 and she said my application was complete and congratulated me on my grades last semester.

Maybe it is different because I am doing the 18-month program?! As for pre-reqs, I have everything done but Organic Chem and Microbiology. I am taking A&P 2 this semester and will take Organic and Micro in the summer. I just hate the wait!!!

Laura is mine as well. Good luck with your future classes. I'm sure you'll do great.

:D

That is so exciting - congrats!!
