Hello fellow nursing newbies! Has anyone already started working on the list of vaccines we need to have on board before sept?

After reviewing the vaccine requirements I realize that most of them are vaccines that I should have received as a child. Wonder how difficult it will be to obtain documentation. arrgh...Thanks for the reply bananimal!

Yeah you should have most of them.. You'll need the TB test if you haven't had it in the past 2 years I think. And you might need a tetanus shot if you haven't had it since you've turned 18. I just got mine a few years ago at the ER so I have to some how track down that information for documentation.. not excited about that!

Can't wait for the orientation tomorrow!

I had most of mine as well. The doctor took a sample and got titers on them, which was sufficient for STCC. The only advice I can offer you is to be sure that you get the Tdap not the TD because I didn't make this clear with my doctor and he gave me the TD which was not accepted at school.

You guys have fun at your orientation! If you end up with the same book list as us, check in with current freshmen, I know that many students would be willing to give you great deals on some of the books/videos you have to buy.

Yes, I went for blood work for my vaccines and had them all come back with titers. I just had to get the TDdap and the Hep. My physical is not until august either. I am hoping they can get me in sooner. I am on a call list.

I am so excited for tomorrow. I can't wait to find out everything.

Question: Maybe I missed something. Why would current freshmen be willing to sell us their books and videos? Don't they need them? I thought I read you buy all your books at the begining of freshmen year for the next two years. maybe I am wrong! Maybe you get new books each semster??

So how are we going to know who everyone is tomorrow?? It would be great to put names to faces!

we do buy all of the books in advance BUT some of the books some people didnt use. One of my friends has not used her Med-surg Book or Maternity book at all(I used them a ton) then some people dont use the study guides, we have some fundamental skill cd's which cost $100 and we are done with, the fundamentals book we are done with (plus a full-text online version is available with the purchase, so not having the book is ok if you have a laptop) Also, since the fall, we lost around 20 people and only 5 or less have come back into the program - so they have no use for their books.
