Hi Guys,

Anybody attend RCC? I was just curious. I heard that the program is challenging and rewarding.

However, I was looking at the pass rates for the NCLEX for schools in Massachusetts and noticed that they only had a 67% pass rate for 2007.
It makes me wonder how well they prepare their students for the test.

Hi Lucyt.

I graduated in June, 2007. I passed my boards first time with 75 Questions and so did a lot of my classmates, I attended the full time day course. I feel the pass rates of 67% was not due to how RCC prepares it's students, but is reflective of the fact that first it goes by first try....some passed on second try. I feel in part that was due more to nerves ( can only speak for the Day program) and that for some english is their second language. RCC has a full time day, part time evening and a nursing class for spaulding rehab employees all graduates of 2007 , so where one class may have done well in passing first try, other classes may not have done so well which would bring down the passing percentage. Hope that makes sense.

As for the RCC nursing program, yes it is very challenging indeed, 50% did not make it to second semester when I was there and that was sad. The students are prepared well, however Kaplan helped many of us with strategies needed to pass the NCLEX-RN........

I can honestly say for the day program only, that out of my 37 classmates, only 2 did not pass ironically english is their second language.

Yes, I agree with Nurseismade. I took my prereq's at RCC before attending Curry College, though many of my classmates went on to get their ASN from RCC. My experience there was that RCC probably has the highest percentage of students for whom English is not their first language and who struggle with that. It also has a higher percentage of population with higher life stressors than most colleges in terms of socioeconomic stressors, single parents who have to maintain full-time jobs while attending school, etc. which can have an effect on success rates when compared to other institutions. Thus the numbers don't reflect the level of preparation the students received. I have fond memories of RCC. I liked my teachers and the students in my classes.

I too attended RCC and passed on my first attempt at the NCLEX. My class started with 46 students and only 14 graduated, as of today we are waiting for the last 2 to pass their NCLEX (we graduated in June). Only 14 graduated because the program is very challenging and like another member posted, many of the students have a lot more than just studying on their mind. Kaplan was also very helpful and RCC arranged for us to have a private week long session with them before we took our NCLEX. I'd suggest anyone interested in the RCC program attend an info session. O yea, those numbers will be different this year .
