i am currently in the nursing program at laboure, i think it's very difficult and very expensive but i also think that's what nursing school is! it's true they go very fast and don't care about your home life, but i feel like thats normal. i think you can learn a lot--you just have to be very devoted and can't screw around at all if you want to pass. i have never once felt as though the teacher or the program did not provide me with the information or help i needed to pass....not at all. it's just intense and difficult, but that will make taking the boards easier in the end.

I wouldn't do it if I were you. I was accepted into their direct nursing program back in 2005 and after taking a tour and meeting with current nursing students I declined. It's very expensive and I was able to get my BSN and graduate in 2 years and 8 months for less than what it would cost get an ADN from there. Last I heard nothing has changed from the original date of this post. They still have staffing issues, administrative issues, and a poor NCLEX pass rate of 82%. In 2006 371 students enrolled in the nursing program and only 92 passed. An NCLEX pass rate of 82% with 92 students is **** poor. I know someone who went there and it took her almost four years to graduate with her ADN because of the constraints and the extra classes that are sprung on you. It is hard to get the classes you need and that can set you back a whole year. I would strongly advise you to seek another school, especially one that offers a BSN because with the tough times and budget cuts Massachusetts is facing, you are going to have a VERY hard time competing with just an ADN with no experience. There are people with BSNs that have been job searching 1-2 years without luck. Just a word of advice from someone who has been there.

it's true they are more expensive than most. there's no arguing that, hands down your right, it's much more expensive. however i have to say as a student there i have never once experienced or noticed a staffing issue or admin issue that has effected me or any other friends i have there. the nclex pass rate for 2007 was 84%, i don't think that's bad, i've certainly seen way worse! granted it's not the best but i don't think it's at the bottom either.

and i agree a bsn is the way to go if you have the time!!! wish i had it!!

full time, however i started off part time taking gen eds very slowly, one or two at a time in 2007. they never sprung any extra's on me or anything like others have said on here. i'm a mom and i work so it took me a while to get the handle on doing it all together but i have a good system now and i'm now full time and in my clinicals. i didn't really have to wait to get in my clinicals but probably because i did my gen eds a little slower than most i think. i really like it at laboure though, my only complaint is the prices are a little wacky! congrats on getting your bsn, that's great!

Student, it sounds like Laboure is perfect for you then. I think if you don't mind taking the slower route it can be a good choice. Where my doubt lays is for those who want to get their ADN in two years. I went as far as to make a potential schedule at Laboure before I withdrew. It just did not seem possible to stuff that many clinicals and classes together.

no you can't do it in 2 years there unless you have your a&p's done and they accept them....which is pretty unlikely i think. even then i would think it would be very overwhelming to do it all in 2 years. i feel like i'm overwhelmed at times and i'm doing it in 3!!! lol. but if you can do it, your amazing in my book!!! are there other nursing schools that have a lighter ciriculum for the same degree?

I went to laboure recently graduated (thank god) I was very disappointed. The reason i choose this school like most was because i thought i would be finished in 2 yrs ( done in 3 1/2), I thought it was small and nursing focused so there would be lots of people to help you out (wrong). I switched to laboure from quincy college because i thought i would be done faster They didnt accept hardy any credits and i had to repeat courses i had just taken. I spent so much money i could have saved thousands at quincy! At this school you are ON YOUR OWN! every student for themselves the best way to think about this school is like a reality show it seemed there was people dropping every semester ( i mean handfuls) Not one of the best choices ive made and if i could do it over i would not go there! I do beleive the experience i have had dealing with those people at that school have made me a stronger better person today ( if that counts as a positive)

actually, I went to laboure full time and completed the program in two years. I'm also single mom with two kids and worked full time, so I know that it can be done. But I also agree with some of the posts regarding administration and the lack support. i found that with certain instructors, favorites were picked...but you had to know your "stuff". Its a tough program and people drop out because they are over whelmed by it all. I've seen students leave the class room crying and unfortunately the instructors weren't very sympathetic. It was not an easy experience at all, I had a few negative encounters with certain proffessors, but made it through. Passed the boards the first time around, (as did the majority of my classmates) And work in a very busy, high acuity trauma hospital in boston!!! Would I recommend Laboure? Lets put it this way; I had a decent experience there, and am returning for there Rn-Bsn program. Good luck to all where ever you end up. Its tough every where, its just a matter of applying yourself to the situations that arises! =)~

I went to Laboure too. There are very few people who were able to complete their program in two years. Not only because it is intense, but also because there was pretty long waiting list when I was a student. I completed the program in 2.5 years, which is probably less then it takes on avarage for a full-time student. As they increased tuition to almost 700 per credit I'm not sure how long is the waiting list now

I would like to mention that I had to study A LOT. For every nursing class I had 3-5 extra books. Taking practice test from various books helped a lot. Their clinical program is very very weak. As a student you won't learn much in clinical settings. We were not allowed to do anything without our clinical instructor, and there were about 8-10 students per instructor. So instead of learning something valuable we we stuck performing CNA duties. Comparing this to UMass program where each student is actually assigned to a nurse, Laboure sucks. This is especially sad because Laboure is a part of Caritas Christi system, so I was asking myself how come that UMass managed to negotiate with Caritas Christi to get their students to work with nurses directly and Laboure didn't? The only answer that comes to my mind is because Laboure DOES NOT CARE.

But all the above is not a reason why I would not go to Laboure today. A friend of mine has told me a shocking story how Laboure fails students nowadays. The first nursing class nursing students take is "Fundamentals of nursing". There are 5 tests and one final. The passing score is 78 percent. It's not so easy to get a passing score, especially for a new student, and like a mentioned I had to study a lot. So when I was a student the final score was calculated as median score of all the test and the final. But now they changed it and if don't get your 78 percent after the first two tests, they dismiss you from the program. Of course, you won't be able to get your money back either. So they basically knowingly accept many more student into the class than they may accommodate in their clinicals, collect their money, and kick them out saying those students lack critical thinking skills. This it absolutely insane, because by that time most students spend 10-15K for taking classes at that school.

So if you like gambling and want to test you luck, Laboure may be a good choice.
