UMSON, Fall 2012...is NO ONE applying?! :) :) - Page 26

Hi, regarding the Fall 2012 BSN program on the Baltimore campus, does anyone have any idea about how many days orientation lasts or when it might be? I see that the site doesn't have them up just yet, but I was hoping to get a sense of how they have historically been scheduled. Also, does anyone know when they will be posted?

Based on what I saw for the Spring semester, orientation took two days. I am running with the assumption it will be the same for Fall.

Orientation for Spring 2012 was 2 days. The dates/times weren't posted until like a month before, though.



As for a previous question about scrubs- just a white top and khaki bottoms, doesn't matter what brand.

For the Fundies book question- yes, Fundamentals of Nursing is the text.

For the "recommended" books question- I didn't find any justification for purchasing extra textbooks. Maybe you can split the cost of some of them with a few friends if you're interested in buying them.

Also, I'd recommend checking amazon for books (and do it now as opposed to a month or so before the semester starts because prices will go up). ...or you can buy mine and we'll eliminate the extra fees and the work I'll have to put in when listing them and shipping them off.

Is there like a comprised list online about what we need and what they have received regarding required documents?
I'm provisional admit but I feel as if I have barely gotten any information on how to get started.

Please visit the University of Maryland School of Nursing website and click on the Accepted Students tab. Once your $400 deposit and intent to enroll agreement have been received and put into the system (you can tell that has happened when your status changes to Provisional Admit - Confirms) you will then be able to set up your UMB account and school email and go from there to register for classes.

I just felt so overwhelmed maybe because I'm not used to this new system (as compared to the university I'm going now).
A lot of things felt cluttered to me so I didn't know where to start looking.

Don't feel overwhelmed! It's just a different system. It took me a bit of getting used to, also. When I was at U of Delaware and at AACC, I felt like the advisors held my hand and always pointed me in the right direction. But at UMSON, you kinda have to figure things out a little more on your own. Things are a bit cluttered, but the information is there. You just need to poke around for it (a lot of it can be found on the website). If you ever have any doubts, just call and ask. They have always been super pleasant with me on the phone with any questions I had (just make sure you take the time to ask them how they are and to thank them for their help!). You'll notice that the "cluttered"/scattered feeling is there for a lot of stuff. You'll be pointed in the right direction, but you'll also need to figure out a few things on your own along the way. Don't be afraid to ask questions and for clarification if you're ever unsure!

Also, I'd recommend making a social media group for the people in your cohort. We have a Spring 2012 FB group and it's really helpful for us all to remind each other of deadlines, clarify any questions, discuss studying, offer encouragement, alert everyone when grades are posted, etc. It's been very helpful!

Are CNL student scrubs the same color as the BSN students? White top and Khaki bottoms? I looked at the bookstore to price out my uniform and it looked as if the tops have patches on them. Can the patches be bought separately?

Patches can indeed be bought seperately from the UMB book store, so you can buy your scrubs anywhere and make them official by adding the patch.
