University of Maryland SON FNP Fall 2011

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

I'm new to this site so I apologize in advance if a thread for this has already started but I am looking for any applicants out there for the FNP program for Fall 2011 at University of Maryland's school of nursing. I'm totally stressing over this waiting because I work with this guy who applied last semester and was rejected and he's pretty much a genius, lol. Then I found some posts from Fall 2010 and everyone was rejected. How competitive is getting into this program. I'm starting to think I should really be thinking about what I will do if I don't get in. Anyone know what they are looking for in the application process other than a high GPA?

Thanks same to you!

I understand completely how u feel...this is sort of my light at the end of the tunnel so I will be very disappointed if I don't get in, however I'm mentally prepared now that I have found what the odds are. I wish the end of April would come on and get here now so I can just move on with whatever the outcome is. Best of luck to you!

What odds have you found out? Did they provide you with more information the # of applicants vs available slots when you called?

When I called admissions they told me "yes, it's about 10 slots", cause I had heard that on here, but then a student who said she was currently in the program posted on here and said that wasn't true, either way, I don't think there is any more than 20 based on different posts I have read and the number of applicants has sky rocketed due to the program being transitioned to DNP in the near future ( I don't think Maryland has made a decision on when exactly that will be, but I could be wrong too)...rumor is June, the state of Maryland will decide. I haven't researched that information at all yet. Admissions did say that there were a great deal of applicants too. Of course I haven't different information depending on who answers too. It's a bit frustrating...the whole waiting game and not knowing exactly what the odds are.

Hmm...I wonder if I don't get into the NP program what my chances are to get into the BSN to DNP program (which doesn't exist yet)? I wonder how many people are interested in doing that. I know this is off-topic, but clearly there's nothing new happening for any of us!

So here's an update that may help with the timeline (but not so much numer of slots etc). My application still says committee ready but I was contacted for an interview. I know they will be finished next week so hopefully we will know something by the beginning of May. I'm praying for good news for everyone!! I'm actually interesting in the DNP program as well so I think that's an awesome option to look into!

Vanurse when were you contacted for an interview?

Wow, that's great news? Which program did you apply for?? I have had no calls and my status still says "committee ready". :-(

How long is the DNP program?? I have my BSN.

So there is no program yet for BSN to DNP? This is stressing me, I guess it will all be over by the end of next week tho.

No call and no letter! On to the next one!

Noooo!!! Please don't stress. I understand the feeling though. I feel like I've dedicated so much time since the fall finding and applying to programs. But we all have to be patient and wait for everything to come together- I tell myself this everyday. Anyhoo, I applied to the FNP program. And no, there is not a BSN to DNP program yet. The website says they will post and update over the summer. This was also discussed at the meeting so it seems like its in the works!!

Well, I've pretty much given up hope on this one. I haven't been contacted for an interview and it's late April already, and there's so few people who are admitted-- just don't think I'll be one of them! Although it's not officially over, I am busy applying for jobs now. All I can think is to make the best of it and apply again later. I'm quite sad, though.

I feel the same way. I am working as an RN, just finished my BSN online so I had cut my hours back to float pool and was waiting to hear back from UMB before I decided what to do with my work position. Now that I'm pretty sure I won't be getting in this semester my unit doesn't have any openings for a full time position, so I will be looking for full time work as well. I'm sad about it too but I'm going to apply again, just this time, to several schools rather than only one like I did this time around because I had no clue it was so competitive. I just don't know what I need to do to make my application look better, that sort of insight would be nice to know. I have a 4.0 so it can't be my grades?? Anyone have any ideas on what to do to make the application, CV, or goals and objective statement (personally I thought at least that was pretty good, lol)look any more attractive in this process?? I'm sure I could probably get more certifications through my facility than I have as well...have been sort of lazy where that is concerned but I'm sure many of you know it's rough raising kids, working, going to school and all that and still making a major priority out of your career. Best of luck to you regardless vickybabymama!! :-)
